Fine Art Catalogue › The Only Presence

The Only Presence

US$165.00

The Narrative

A pair of child’s shoes sits abandoned on the shores of Arniston, evoking the poignant duality between presence and absence. It speaks to the hollow silence when one seeks comfort and finds only empty space, yet it also honors the quiet refuge found in solitude. The shoes remain—a tether to a memory—while the person has moved beyond the frame.

The Technique

  • Method: Acrylic hand-painting and heavy sand-textured overlays on a Metallic Sheet transfer.

  • The Feel: This piece has a grounded, organic "shimmer." The metallic base creates a matte, gritty textured landscape.

  • Note on Creation: This is a custom-finished metallic work. Please allow 7–10 days for hand-painting and curing in the Cape Town studio before dispatch.

    Materiality: Beyond the Paper

While a traditional photograph lives on paper, The Only Presence is an exploration of environmental depth. The metallic i-Bond base acts as the "grounded" element of the composition, catching the light of Arniston. By layering physical sand into the acrylic, the artist creates a literal piece of the shore that sits on the surface of the image, inviting the viewer to feel the landscape as much as see it.

    The Artist’s Hand

This is not a digital reproduction; it is a physical intervention. Grace Remondo has painstakingly reproduced the sandy ground and coastal grasses using a mixture of acrylics and raw texture. By building up the earth where the owner of these shoes once stood, she bridges the gap between the frozen moment of the photograph and the living memory of the jump into the water. This process ensures that the "presence" in your specific piece is tangibly felt.

Philanthropy & Community Mentorship

Empowering the Next Generation of Artists

The Bloubergrant High School Legacy Project (2024 – Present) > Grace serves as a Mentor for the Bloubergrant High School Photography Club. This residency program goes beyond technical skills, teaching students from the Conceptualization of an idea to the Process of Creativity throughout Art Photography.

The 2026 Vision: > Our goal is to empower students to transition from "taking photos" to "creating a corpus of work." By teaching them sponsorship and marketing skills, the program aims to help the club become self-sustaining, ensuring that every student has access to the equipment they need to tell their story.

“We aren't just building photographers; we are building visual storytellers and future entrepreneurs.”
